About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

An Intruder and other things

Thursday night we had an intruder.  About 1 am, my son awoke to the screen door slamming.  He got up and heard someone, quick went back in his room to cower and slammed it shut.  The next sound was the screen door slamming again.  (I was always upset with hubby that this screen door has such a tight spring on it, but glad this time as it does slam shut!)  Son gets up, comes into our room to wake me up, hubby jumps out of bed and inspects.  He hears tires screech.  The storm door is wide open!  Nothing is missing, Thank God!  Perhaps Dan's door slamming was enough to scare them and they thought the house was empty?  Apparently, when Dan went to work that day, the door wasn't tightly closed and our house always looks like no one is home as we all go to bed or to the back of the house early, and the lights are out.  Last night, the door was double locked, the porch light on, and we kept a house light on.

I am so worried about my sister.  She has family problems.  She is a recent widow and they are draining her dry financially and emotionally.  I don't know what she can do.

We have a new web program at work.  What a challenge!  First it wouldn't accept my password.  Then it wouldn't load.  Finally in the afternoon, I got to work with the tech person  and work on it.  I don't work again until next Thursday, so hope I remember what I learned and can use it successfully.

Oh How We Shopped!

My sister and I started our journey up to Door County WI, also known as the "udder" Cape Cod. Our first stop I bought a pair of sandals that felt comfortable.....until I started to wear them while shopping! My sister resisted a beautiful pair of sandals. She should have bought them...they fit her perfectly. Next stop...a thrift store of all places where I found a jacket. I later saw the same jacket in a store for $49 (I paid $10). Going further north. Stopped for lunch. I had a crab stuffed omelet. It was spicy as promised, but there was no crab meat or stuffing unless they put it in a blender! My sister, Connie had a piece of dried out over baked quiche. So much for lunch. On to more shopping. Sister bought earrings, we both bought another pair of sandals. She later decided hers don't fit properly and I will probably get them for Christmas...LOL Mine are the brown ones. They were 50% off and oh so comfortable.

We then went shopping some more! My sister bought a necklace. I was saving money so I could eat. Most of what they offer in Door County has Chicago or even New York pricing so if it's on sale, it's still expensive. I had a coupon for a dining establishment so we looked for that place and they didn't want to accept the coupon. We ate there anyway. It was good, but the owner sure was a bitch about the coupon...not like I was trying to rob them or anything! The hot tub and pool were a welcome retreat after we had digested our meal.

Next day, the quest continues! I am just about out of money. I had sweets for breakfast and lots of coffee. We went on a trolley ride to see the peninsula.

I'm the fat one on the right.

Lunch was yummy and I enjoyed eating outdoors. We decided to stay for an authentic Door County Fish Boil. So, we shopped some more and Connie bought a Vera Bradley tote! My bff and I had bought her a quilted tote but it wasn't a VB and didn't zip close. We rested a bit in between and just people watched.

The Fish Boil
The planks control the heat

The potatoes, sweet onions and Lake Michigan whitefish come to a boil.

Kerosene is poured on to disintegrate the fatty foam at the top of the boil.

Phew!  That's hot!

 All but the cherry pie!

Woo Hoo! It's the Weekend!

I have been so tired lately.  Could be that I worked more than usual this week.  Hubby and I didn't get anything done together last Wednesday, but I did get the kitchen and dining room floor cleaned.  Told him he is in charge of laundry this weekend.  I am going with my sister up north for a little window shopping and just plain old sister time.  She needs to get away from it all and I'm only happy to join her.  The plan is to stop in the stores, MAYBE, just maybe, buy something, dine out and relax in the hot tub at the hotel tonite.  I will let you all know how I make out on the "window" shopping!  Have a good weekend!

On to Plan B

My sister and  were going to go "camping" with her motorhome this weekend.  Well, since her husband's passing in March and getting older, she is afraid to drive it.  It sways in the wind and she had that experience last weekend and didn't like it.  So, on to plan B, but wait, I thought I had off on Friday....oh no, I don't, never got the date approved.  So now sister Connie and I are taking a sister day and going up to Door County, window shop, get some cherries, whatever.  Will stay overnight Saturday night, sit in the hot tub and just be sisters.

My bff is down in the dumps because she has little followers of her blog, "Chocolate, One of My Many Addictions."  It is really a good read most of the time and there is a cute video of my great niece rockin out to a band.  Please check it out here:  http://lindaloveschocolate.blogspot.com/

Well, hubby is home and hopefully the two of us will get something done around here today.  If not, I am going to the waterpark.

Have a great day!

Addiction is addiction is addiction....

After the football game last night, we stopped at the casino till the traffic cleared.  We stayed way too late.  First game, I was $15 ahead, then it all went downhill from there.  The bad thing is that besides losing my money that I went in with, hubby gave me money (he loaned it) and I blew a ton of money quickly.  Hubby and son were doing well, but I was on a losing streak of epic proportions.  If only I would have told them, "let's go" or just sat and watched.  Well, I feel quite done with it all now.  It is a stupid habit and the chance of winning is way too slim.  What I could have done with my losings!  No use in crying...I have to learn from this and move on.

The football game was fine.  It was a pre-season game so it didn't really count in the scheme of things.  Nice to see the stadium from the inside close and personal.  Two bottles of water, one beer, three brats (sausages), total:  $35!   I much prefer Red Lobster!

Maybe I will go with bff to her grandson's birthday party and stay out of trouble?

Have a glorious day!

Morning with Coffee

My sister isn't home so having my coffee without our morning phone conversation.  Actually, I woke up really, REALLY, early!  Couldn't get back to sleep, so my bed is made, I've had several cookies and finally made some scrambled eggs.

I need to lose weight....but it is SO hard!  I love to eat...everything and double portions.  Okay, I'm about 25 pounds overweight.  Enough that I need new clothes.   Enough that when I tried pants on yesterday I couldn't zip the zipper!  What was really horrifying is when hubby groped me in the dark and mistook my flabby belly for another body part!  YIKES!  God help me.

Well, enough of that!  Am I going to lose weight?  Change my wayward ways?  I doubt it, but if so, cheer me on.  We can cheer each other on!

Have to run my son to the superstore this morning and pick up snacks (his) among other things.  Tonight we are going to my first ever football game.  I've only watched on TV.  It is supposed to be hot and humid but will try and stay hydrated.

Watched QVC last night....I am a sucker for "one time only's" and "easy pay."  Yes, I did make a purchase of hydrating mineral veil.

Rockin Mamma and Other Thoughts

Last weekend hubby and I went to an outdoor concert to see a Milwaukee based band, The Guffs, and Jim's favorite....TONIC!  Even though we had VIP tickets, there was no place to sit or stand.  Jim says, "let's work our way up as close as possible" so we end up in the third row of people.  Well, we are chatting away with the surrounding fans waiting for the band, and get friendly with a couple in the front row.  I explain to them that hubby is a great fan, and if he could just go up there for a few minutes to take a picture, I would be grateful.  All of a sudden, this couple's friends decide to leave, they put us in their place and we get "upgraded" to the front and center!  How freaking cool is that?  We will never have such a great vantage point again.  It was awesome!  Jim and I felt like kids again and rocked out.  We decided that it was one of the highlights of our life together.  The lead singer even came down and gave each of the girls (me included) in the front a hug, and the guys a handshake.  Nothing like hugging a sweaty lead singer!  LOL  http://www.myspace.com/tonicband

Our son has an eight week internship in Information Systems for a major local company and has a job interview this morning for another major company!  Keep your fingers crossed that one of these leads to a permanent position!

BFF is not going to be home today, sister is camping....I might have to clean or do laundry today...NOT!
How about hitting the thrift stores?  Sounds like a plan.

Rockin Mama and Other Thoughts

I am overwhelmed by the response to my pity party!  You gals are wonderful!  I do try to comment on other blogs.  I am still rather new at this blogging stuff....trying to work out the format and all the tools here.  I still have to publish all the blogs I follow.  Some blogs are so fancy, some have tons of pics (my scanner doesn't work so I have to upload my pics etc.)  Many bloggers have such a flair for writing.  Some are so full of humor and other of pathos.  Either way, I will continue to wander in blogging land.

I forgot to explain Chocolate Monster ice cream.  It is chocolate (obviously) with chocolate chunks, nuts, and caramel.  Not too decadent!

Okay, If at first you don't succeed....

Sunday was my great niece's birthday.  She's two now and quite a character.  To prove that point, she decided the purple and orange frosting on her personal Dora cake would make great body paint.  She is always on the go, no matter how tired she is, she doesn't stop until she's put to bed.

Yesterday I made a purchase I just love.  A Vera Bradley quilted purse.  It was $35, which is not money I could afford to spend, but I NEEDED it!....LOL  It has oodles of pockets, zippered pockets, all my favorite colors....how could I NOT buy it?

In the afternoon, I went to the waterpark and met bff, sister and the kids.  Got toasty brown, but have to go back to tan the back of my legs!  I love the Lazy River, and in the words of my bff's grandaughter, "it is wonderful!"

I didn't Jazzercise yesterday because of:   1. I was lazy.  2.  It was too darn humid!  3. No air conditioning there.

I was going to diet.  That doesn't last.  I love my cookies.  I love Chocolate Monster ice  cream too.  (a new discovery)

Today is errand day.  Have a "chocolate monster" kind of day!

Great Give Away

Head over to http://www.weeshasworld.com/ for a great give away!

Does it Matter?

I am thinking this will be my last post.  No one cares what I think or have to say about my life. So....unless I am convinced otherwise, this is it.  Have a good life!
