About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

What a Girl Needs, What a Girl Wants!

Been an uneventful week of work and laundry.  Was so happy to get up in the wee hours Sunday to go to the airport.  So thankful that they didn't have the scanner set up and I didn't  have the pat down.  It always is so embarrassing to me.  Love to people watch in the airport.  The flight was fine.  It wasn't full so, I got a refill of Coke and cookies!  Woo hoo!

Got to Florida and it was HOT!  First thing...jacket, shoes and socks come off!  Did a bit of shopping...mostly craft supplies...like I need more, but I get caught up in the fever.  Went to a couple of other shops, but mostly just looked.  Had lunch outdoors at the Fish Company.  Enjoyed a cup of clam chowder and a crab cake sandwich.  I think I could eat seafood every day!

Relaxed at my cousins, just visiting and catching up.  Watched The Oscars and crafted....(it's a surprise).

Today the plan is to lay by the pool and get tan.  Saw a cute sign by the airport in Wisconsin,  "You never hear of windchill lotion!"  With that in mind, I will enjoy my book, the sun, and a lounge chair!

Just Another Weekend in Paradise!

I woke up Saturday morning at 3:30 a.m.   Yes, you got it right!  I had sinus and a headache, so I stayed up and watched all the T.V. shows that I had missed last week on the P.C.  Well, of course, my sleep schedule is thown way off.  I did laundry with napping in between.

Last night we went out to eat.  Our son picked up the tab and tip!  Woo hoo.  My sister joined us.  I told her their sirloin was sooooooooo good.  Well, last night, not so much.  First her steak came over done.  They gave her a new one.  Next, both of our steaks had cords running through them so bad that there was alot of waste.  Anyway, they took $$ off our bills!  Woo hoo.  Still, will be a while before I have the steak again.

Today I HAVE to get at my basement craft area. Ever since we painted, it has been in disarray. I would love to be able to sit and relax in that space again. When it is done, I will post the before and after pics....but here is a hint.

....and Life Goes On

TGIF!  I get paid today!  I get to work with my favorite coworker today....woo hoo!

An update:  I did work out on Wednesday, I did clean (not my basement), got our taxes done,  and I did eat too many cookies again and still.  I am a cookie junkie.

The weather has been warm this week, showing hints of green, but also the black, muddy ice/snow that is left.  Not to worry.  The weather is getting colder and 3"-7" are expected of new snowfall.  Oh yay....glad I go to Florida in a week and a half.

Hubby had some stocks from an accident he suffered when he was younger.  He made good investments and is going to sell some so we can get our heads above water again.  Nothing extravagant, just pay bills, buy groceries, etc.  Anyway, it gives a person hope.

That's my exciting life.  Don't know what I'm doing this weekend.  What are YOU doing?

Good Intentions

I am a master of good intentions.  Trying to lose weight, but I am addicted to cookies.  I binge on cookies.  Argghhhh!  Went to the gym on Monday  (that's good).  Didn't go yesterday. I was going to clean.  Notice the verbage:  "going to."  My sister called and we sat on the phone for over an hour.  What new things do we have to talk about every day?

Today my husband has off.  I won't get to the gym, but am hoping that both of us can get some cleaning done.  My sister is coming over in the afternoon to help me with taxes.  Then, she is staying for dinner.

Will I get the tax returns done?  Will the house get cleaned?  Will I get anything done in the basement?
Will I eat a half of a bag of cookies?  Such an exciting life!

to be continued.....

If the World Ends Tomorrow

If the world ends tomorrow, I will always have bills.  I have the opportunity to go to Washington, D.C. this Fall.  It is not real expensive and someplace I have always wanted to see.  I have credit card debt.  My hubby has debt.  Still, we discussed it and decided it was a great opportunity for me that I may not have again.  (He went as a chaperon when our son was in the 8th grade class. )  Also, with stage 4 kidney disease, one never knows when one's life is going to be turned upside down, so best take advantage of the present.  I will always have bills.  When I had my money from dear Aunt Violet, no one mentioned about going.  Now it has been spent on bills, purses, shoes, nails, etc.

The plan:  I will get my nails done once before I go to Florida, and then let them go.  I will make less trips to and spend less money at the casino. (dont' know if I want to give up all my favorite pastimes).   I will get my hair done at the beauty school.  I will not buy anything on Ebay or anything else unless it passes the test:
1) Do I need it?  2) Can I afford it?  3) Can I live without it?  (is that how it goes?)

I am very proud of myself.  I stood up for myself at work.  My supervisor was a bit nasty to me about a lab incident.  In short, a lab order was misfiled, and it wasn't my fault, but  I did come up with a solution.  Yeah for me for not backing down.

I am working extra hours when they become available.  Yesterday I worked in Peds.  I love Peds...so relaxing compared to Internal Medicine.

What are your Valentine plans?  Hubby and I will go out to dinner tonight.  I don't need chocolates, flowers, etc, but if  I were surprised on Monday, I wouldn't complain.

Happy Valentine's Day to you dear readers!

Jump out of My Skin Crazy!

Have you ever worked or spent the day with someone who drives you nuts?  There is a lady at work, who, although she is very nice, drives me up the flippin wall.  She is loud.  She is very detailed oriented to the point of being anal.  She leaves out a sigh every five minutes, like work is just too much to be handled although she is very competent.  She irritates me, makes ME nervous, I want to crawl in a hole and hide.

How do you deal with such a person?

What a Month!

A week ago the President of the US came to little old Manitowoc, our neighboring city.  I had to work, but someone got this picture!

We have had snow, ice, sleet, cold, etc.  Our latest storm and this is what it looks like!

I promised a picture of my hair and nails.  My hair doesn't look the same when I do it, and the flash did something funny to my face (it's hard to take your own picture).
You see, Penny, I am brave and posted my pic.  Yuck!  Like the sweater though.

Glad it is Friday!  Yeah!  Tomorrow am going to go to a scrapbooking store with my bff and make cards!  I will probably do some shopping too.  Ya think?

Wee Hours on a Tuesday

Oh we got snow last night!  Again!  Hope my lovely neighbor blows us out.  It's not bad unless the snowplow goes through and closes my driveway.

It snowed yesterday too, and was kind of nasty when I took son to work, so opted not to go work out.  Instead I craweled back in bed when I got home.  It felt good and warm and sleep was wonderful.  I don't often sleep well during the night, so I do enjoy my naps!

Had my mammogram...ouch!  Then, went and had my massage which was right next door.  A good massage is more beneficial than all the vitamins and medications in the world.  I felt great and wish I could do it more often.  The therapist worked on that pulled muscle of mine from working out.  (not a cracked rib).

Made chicken enchiladas yesterday.  Don't quite have the hang of my food processor yet, as my chicken got more like spread than chunks.  Still tasted good.  Hubby calls the enchiladas my specialty.

Not sure what I am doing today besides shoveling.   Maybe I will clean a cupboard or a coat clostet.  Hmmm.  Maybe I will hunker down and sleep again... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
