About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

I Need My Vacation!!!!

Can't wait for vacation!  This week was hard.

Mom has developed pneumonia for the third time.  She is stable and taking antibiotics.  She also has congestive heart failure.  Oh dear!  She just keeps getting ill.  I am looking forward to her being able to enjoy the Springtime!  I had lunch with her the other day and her appetite had improved.  The nurse said they are going to look into what is causing her repeat pneumonia.

Work is delightful and stressful and I have mixed feeling right now about my decision to change jobs.  It is because yesterday I worked at clinic check-out and there are new processes that are so time consuming.  At one point I had a row of five people in front of me!  STRESSFUL!  Thank God for Marcie who walked some over to check-in to be checked out.  Okay, are you confused now?  Anyway, I hate the check-out aspect of the job  Oh, I learned we have secret shoppers too. Good Lord! There is no escape. We must ask the right questions when scheduling and registering our patients.  At the old place they will probably hire someone as they added Walk-In to Internal Medicine and are busier now.  Should I have stayed?

My house is relatively clean, I had my hair trimmed, and did my own nails.  I have to pack for myself, help my son who is staying at his aunt's, and probably help hubby pack as well.  I know it will be vacation when I get in that hotel room!

My cousin called last night and we are all excited about our vacation.  She has some days off as well, so she is looking forward to it as well as our bringing the Wisconsin cheese curds!  I also bought her a Packer necklace!

This 'n' That

Why do people seem to get more cantankerous as they age? Yesterday when we took Mom to the eye doctor, we found out that it was old appointment that had been cancelled. Oh, did she get belligerent! She was downright rude and it upset me. That is not the way she behaves or as I told her, that is not the way we were raised.

Next we went to visit my brother.  He has my mom's dog and it was nice seeing that Lilly remembered me and Mom.

Yesterday I had a rather big lunch and paid for it dearly.  My sister, Mom, and I had lunch at this family diner.  When you order a "special," it is enough for two. It included a cup of soup, salad or cottage cheese, the entree with vegetable and a desert.  I was stuffed!  I didn't eat the entire entree, but I had problems the rest of the day just living in the bathroom.  My tummy hurt.  My ostomy hurt.  Ginger ale and soda crackers became my food of choice.

Looking forward to going to Florida.

over 50,feeling 40!

How can you not like that title?  It belongs to a blog I follow.  I have followed Pam through her weight loss journey and her emergence as a recognised and popular fashion blogger.  Although I am not as svelte as her and her fashion blogging cohorts, I enjoy her blog.  First of all, I am over 50, and secondly, I feel 40!  I learn alot about the latest trends and how to incorporate them into my wardrobe.

She has a fabulous give  away for Valentine's Day.  Check it out here.  http://over50feeling40.blogspot.com/2012/02/arsenic-and-old-laceand-giveaway-too.html

Yipes, Stripes!

Izod at Younkers
Chirstopher & Banks

I am not big, just under-tall!  Okay, so I have put on a few pounds, that won't stop me from looking my best.  I like bright colors but tend to wear them in bits and pieces...maybe a sweater, or a scarf or bag.  I also love stripes this year.  I swore I would never wear horizontal stripes, but big chest and chubbiness be damned!    I love my nautical sweater with navy and white offset by some aqua and grey on the top!  I love my new striped sweater from Christopher and Banks with coral shell.  I love my coral striped sweater.  What is it with the stripes?  Am I revolting because I haven't worn horizontal stripes for years and years?

Christopher & Banks

I have a new pair of grey jeans and a new pair of dark blue jeans.  I also think these would go well with my dress pants at work.  I love the transition from Winter to Spring/Summer, and that is probably why I am drawn to these.  Still, enough with the stripes!
