About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

You don't know what you had until it's gone.

June and I were neighbors for over six years until they moved out of state.  Our boys used to play together.  Danny was devastated that he lost his friend, Jason.  Now our boys are young men and they dont' even stay in touch.

June and I had a nice long talk on the phone yesterday.  We reminisced, talked about husbands, menopause, rummage sales and house cleaning.  We both agreed that we are gettign too old and tired to keep an immaculate house, although I'm sure her's is cleaner than mine.  It always was.

June is battling thyroid cancer.  She has had her thyroid removed and the last of her radiation treatments for now.  She just has to wait until June (isn't that ironic) to find out if they got it all.

She is a sweet lady.  I miss her.

That's My Story!

Last weekend's concert was enjoyable, but I have never been in a place with so many drunken young people, since I was one!  The venue played to a younger crowd.  Since I like rock music as well as classic country, I enjoyed it more than my older sister,   This was more of a country rock band.

On they way up there we stopped for a pizza buffet.....not exactly diet food, but soooo good!

Our room was really a deal.  Two beds and a sofa sleeper for $63.  The sofa sleeper looked like it had not been opened in quite some time and I requested clean sheets and blanket for it.  Still, it was a room and
much less expensive than staying at the casino hotel.  We could take the shuttle over to the casino.  The bus was full of noisy young girls singing off key at the top of their lungs and a totally wasted older couple that wreaked of alcohol!  It was an experience!  Coming back to the hotel the shuttle driver said we were the quietest people he had all night!  (We were the only ones on the shuttle bus)

We gambled and I lost, then won it back.  The next day we went back so hubby could use his free sandwich coupon.  I lost all my winnings!  Easy come, easy go.  On the way home we stopped to enjoy a pastie (pronounced pass-tee), a upper Michigan specialty.

Monday night was our Red Hat Society banquet to celebrate National Red Hat Day on April 25th.
We enjoyed our dinner of broasted chicken and barbecued ribs.  There were raffle prizes and I won a $10 gift certificate for a gas station.  The entertainment was the Senior Center Chorus.  Let's just say that was not for me.  I am not that old yet!

Today I am going with my sister to check out a smaller motor home for her.
Friday night is Heart-a-rama, a vaudeville type of program of skits poking fun at the the local events and such.  One of my friends is in the program.  Sunday I teach Sunday School, and hopefully, will have time to visit my Mom this weekend and start pricing my stamps and supplies for a stamp sale next weekend.

Going to a Concert!

Wanted to go see the Band Perry last weekend for my birthday but they were sold out.  Oh well, not a bad substitute this weekend! ....and he can sing too!  I like country music.  I like just about anything but hip hop and rap.
Jake Owne is appearing at the ChipIn Casino (do you think it's called the ChipIn cause we will all be chipping in for their profit?)  I am sure we will do some gambling too.  My husband, son, sister and I are staying in a suite (a two bed hotel room with a pullout couch).  We will have a blast!

This was a busy week with work.  I am just feeling alot more relaxed there.  Good!

I had to work on name tags for our city Red Hatters.  We are going to have a poor turnout for our National Red Hat Banquet.  Too bad cause we sell raffle tickets and win prizes and have entertainment.  All that work for a poor turnout?  Not sure what we will do about that.  We are having our banquet Monday night although National Red Hat Day is April 25th!

Next Friday is Heart-a-Rama, a local benefit program to help fight heart disease.  It is full of skits, an auction for a "beautifully" designed toilet seat, beer, popcorn, face painting....  What fun!  One of our own Red Hatters and friend is appearing in the benfit.

Saturday's Wedding

Okay, I promised you a picture or two.  These are from the wedding Saturday night.  We looked as good as an old married couple can!  (Jim has outgrown his suit)

There was this beautiful arch where people could get their picture taken.  I didn't realize I was wearing wedding colors!

The bride and her sister, the matron of honor.  This is the only picture I could get of my coworker.  She is such a sweet girl and had a lovely wedding.

The best part of the evening is when the best man gave his speech and then burst into song for the couple.  He sang " L is for the Way You Look at Me" by Nat King Cole.  The groomsman, bridesmaids and guests all joined in for the song to the wedding couple!

T'was a Wonderful Week!

What a wonderful start to the week with Easter Sunday!  My Mom was with us as we went out to dinner.  Just think, last October we were told she wasn't expected to live more than six months!  All of us ladies looked fabulous.  I wore a pastel yellow tank dress with shorty jacket and a bright teal scarf!  Unfortunately, no pictures were taken as we were crowded in the supper club and later just enjoyed visiting at my brother's.

Work is going well.  At least I have the right attitude.  I know there will always be changes, and glitches in the system and that sometimes one just can't help it if mistakes are made!  I am no longer obsessing about it and enjoying my job more.  All I can do is my best and if that's not good enough, oh well!

Thursday I turned the big 6-0h!  My bff gave me a card and on the envelope had written that 60 is the new 40!  I agree.  Still, hoping I don't have to work till I'm 80!  The day began with breakfast with my friends and sister.  I got a big muffin with a candle in it!  I received lovely presents and just had a wonderful time.
I then went to visit my Mom who gave me my birthday after all!  After my visit I went for a massage. It was the most relaxing wonderful massage ever!  I told my hubby that if I ever leave him, it will be for a massage therapist!

When I got home hubby and son greeted me with cards and gifts.  My hubby bought me chocolates.  Oh oh!  For dinner we went out and I had a lobster lover's dream at Red Lobster!  We went to the casino for a bit.  It wasn't kind to me, but our son was lucky.  Anyway, it was a good day spent with friends and family, fun and all my favorite things!

One of my coworkers is getting married this Saturday (today) and it will be fun to see everyone from work in a different environment!  Will try and get a picture of my outfit, and oh, of course the bride!

Between Sizes

Between sizes.  That is what I call it.  Not quite a plus size.  I'm an extra large on a petite frame.  Makes it quite difficult to find clothes that fit.  Still, I am going to boldly go where I have not gone before.  Anything that is two sizes too small or more is going out.  That means all my size 10's, 12's, and Mediums are going.  (Hubby said I might want to keep 20% of the too small clothing, expecially the stuff that was worn only once or less).

I didn't gain this weight overnight and it's likely that I won't lose it that way either.  I am waiting for the weather to warm up and quit raining.  I want to bike and walk.  That's the plan.  MAYBE I will go to the gym and do some weight resistant exercise as well.  I know I should cut back on the cookies....but that's a toughie.  I am soooooo addicted!  Any suggestions for cookie replacement with my morning coffee?

It is thundering to beat the band.  Would be a good day to stay in bed, but I have to take my son to work, go to the chiropractor, get my hair trimmed, do a little shopping for birthday cards, etc, visit my Mom.
What a way to spend my day off!
