About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

What's Going On

I've been a little down, so don't like to blog that way.  Mom had an ultrasound and they found a spot on her gallbladder and pancreas.  I pray it's nothing but scar tissue.

Been working more half days, the same amount of hours but spread out during the week.  I don't like it, but it's only fair to share the crummy schedule with the other part timer.

I had this idea to talk about my life story.  Where should I begin?  As a child?  How I met Jim, etc.  Your imput would be helpful!

Short little Post

My frail little Mom.  She fell in her room the other day.  She broke the cartilage in one ear.
Her whole body aches.  She has lost her appetite and is on pain medication.  I hope she didn't break her spirit too.

I am going to visit her today.  I'm not sure what else I will do today.  Tomorrow I would REALLY like to go to Archivers in Appleton with my bff.  I have missed going to that store.

Have a great weekend!

Thoughts on the Weekend

I didn't take pictures, but had a wonderful day.  We picked up Mom and went to my bff's house.  There is still some drama in that family but I guess there always will be. It is just sad cause it is causing division within the family of my "ex" brother-in-law, bff  and nephew.  I cannot even explain other than nephew's wife is the source of all dissension.  I am thinking of getting involved, although everyone advises me not to.

Now, back to the wonderful day!  Food was great!  Got to see my niece and her little family who I don't see often enough.  Got to visit with Mom and friends and it didn't rain till late last night.

I have had an epiphany.  Since I have had all this shopping therapy, I have decided that I may as well look my best for shopping, lunch or whatever.  IT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD!  It gives me confidence.  Why save it all for Sunday mornings?

Shopping Therapy

I couldn't get a freon charge for my car.  Can't go leaking freon out into the environment.  So, I will suffer.

My sister has been feeling down in the dumps.  Every time there is a holiday, she misses her husband.  I had asked her to pick me up at the repair shop, so she had to put her make-up on and look pretty and leave her house!
We then went to Kohl's for shopping therapy.
I am not crazy about the peasant style blouses this year, but did manage to find three that I liked.

I love prints and love teal!

Looking Forward to the Weekend!

What's up for your weekend?  Today I am getting a freon charge for my car.  Hopefully the A/C will last through the summer .  I am not getting whole new A/C for my car; the car is 12 years old!

What can I do tomorrow?  It is too nice outside to stay in the house and just do laundry.  Would rather do it tonight.  There is an art fair about 40 miles from here...maybe I can persuade someone to go?

Sunday is Father's Day in the U.S.  Well, hubby already got his gift...a new recliner.  My bff is having a cookout and it is always nice to see the rest of the family.  Looking forward to it.

Much Ado about Nothing

I can't sleep again.  It is a problem, and I'm not quite sure what to do about it.  I don't want more drugs.

I have been spending allot of my "free" time with my Mother.  Last week my sister and I took her to the cemeteries to put flowers on her loved ones graves.  She was glad she could do that and was afraid it will be the last time.  We went for lunch after and had hot beef on home made bread.  Each slice was about an inch thick, piled high with gravy and two scoops of mashed potatoes!  We had to laugh when we saw that in front of our little Mom.

This last Sunday, my brother and I took Mom to see her 96 years young sister-in-law.  She doesn't have any children of her own, so can always use visitors!

Clean your plate, Mom!

Hubby got the strips on the carpet.  Yeah Jim!  We still have to get all our furniture in the living room, get the tiebacks up and pictures.

A potpourri of color to choose from in my sofa!

Mom's "old" recliner looks good here!

The colors are growing on me.  I bought Jim a new recliner as his is looking really ragged after almost 30 years!  We have to pick it up on Wednesday!  I picked out the burgundy in the sofa.

I don't know why but I am feeling a little down today.  Maybe it is cause of the lack of sleep, I don't know.  I will be sure to catch a nap today.  Maybe I should go to the thrift store for a pick me up?

To Strip or not to Strip

I went with a chain store to get my carpeting.  15 months free financing....they had me.  Problem is, the service is questionalbe to say the least.  When the carpet was installed, the installer asked for a labor fee (which hubby didn't have at the time).  Thing is, he wasn't told that it was supposed to be part of the financing total.
Check voided, problem solved.

Installer didn't have the metal strips to lay between the carpeting and linoleum (or whatever you call it these days).  Wouldn't be a problem except there isn't enough coverage over the linoleum or sub floor.  NOT FINISHED!  The installer says my husband can go to the hardware store and get the strips.

I call the store.  Again.  They can get the strips in sometime next week, plus the cost of the materials and probably labor.  After debating this, I decided that it's best hubby finish the job.

Moral of the story:  Go with the local carpet dealer you know and trust to stand behind their product and labor.

When Real Life enters your Dreams, it's a Nightmare!

What a warped dream night!  There is some family drama going  on.  It is always the same members of the family, but still feels like it affects me.  My poor departed sister would be so sad, and I am sure she is shaking her head in heaven at the stupidity behind it all.  Anyway, I had a nightmare about it and was quite upset, crying, etc. (in my dream).  Too bad the drama hasn't been resolved.  Wish everyone could just get along.  I HATE it when people I love are at odds.

I had another dream with Star Trek characters in it, but that didn't seem to make any sense at all.

We (ie. hubby) has painted my livng room.  We got new carpet laid too.  Both look rather different than the small samples we looked at.  Oh well, it will grow on me... kind of like a new haircut.  Before this,  I had white walls, rust colored carpeting, wallpaper on one wall, and a border.  Think 80's floral and colors.  It is now a bluish green wall (think the sea) and "wet sand" colored carpeting.  My sofa and tables look great in there; but nothing makes your old chairs look quite so old as new walls and carpet!

The carpet dealer was a chain and a comedy of errors...but I'm not laughing!  They were supposed to put the installation on my financing charge.  They didn't install the strips between the living room and dining room.  I called to complain, and the installation check was voided and put on my charge.  They said they would install the strips....when??????  I will have to call AGAIN!  I would have loved to have gone with the local carpet business, but I wanted the financing as that was the only way I would get new carpet.  I would never be able to save that amount of money without having to make the payments!  (I know, no self discipline).

Once I get everything back in the living room and pictures on the walls, I will share the photos.

So, This is Camping?

We left last Friday for our "camping" trip.  We met up with a group of campers that my sister belongs to.  She has been a member of this group for a very long time and since she lost her husband, the men are always willing to help her set up.  Now I learned how to level the camper when the ground is not level.
Before we left, my sister learned how to dump and clean her sewer hose.  Yes, there is a bathroom!  We only use it at night.  The campground has a public restroom.

Friday night we went out to eat with the group.  One of the gals snapped these pictures of us.

Ahhh....this is the life!

It rained really hard and it's like sleeping in a tin can then!  Between the rain and wind, the sun finally came out.
On Sunday I got sunburned.  Ooops!  It was so nice to relax and with the wind I just didn't realize I was burning!
Sunday night we had a chili pot luck.  Several pots of chili, deserts and horsedeourves were set out between all the campers.  Yum!

It was a nice weekend with my sister, nephew and his girlfriend.  I will do it again!
