About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

Life is Short, Eat Cookies

My bff suggested that I had named my blog "Life is Short, Eat Cookies."  I wish I had thought of that!
It is pretty much my philosophy and oh how I love cookies!

If you look really closely, you will see my palm tree on my nail before I get my "Florida" nails changed.

Work has been splendid as I now know that I am leaving.  No more "talks" or evaluations,
don't have to worry constantly about making a mistake, everyone is friendly and several of of the staff have said they envy me.  See how much they envy me when I am broke!  I am already missing the social aspect of the job.  I will miss the patients and employees so much.

I had a breast biopsy.  It showed that I have dysplasia which as far as I know is not cancerous but can become cancerous, so they are advising a lumpectomy.  Today I meet with the surgeon for a consult.
I would like to have the genetic test for breast cancer.  Afterward I am having lunch with my sister
who is coming to my appointment with me.

Keep you posted.

Bittersweet Endings

View from lanai.

This is me in my bathing suit.

Need I say more?

The end of vacation is bittersweet.  I will miss my cousin, the warm weather, the beautiful sunsets....
Oh, how I missed my husband and son though!

The last two days of vacation brought HEAT!  We went to the zoo and it was so HOT that I thought I would get heat exhaustion.  The stores are so much cooler!

We celebrated my birthday Friday night at Joe's Crab Shack.  What fun as we had the cute boys tie on our bibs and later all sang Happy Birthday to me.

We spent Saturday morning at the pool again.  Later we went shopping to the outlet store.
I found an outfit for summer and a scrapbook kit.

Sunday was church day and the day we went home.  The ride was bumpy but we got home safely.

Me, Sister Connie and Cousin Shirley.  What memories!

This week I had a breast biopsy.  I don't have the results yet.  Imagine a mammogram where they crank the machine a few more times till you cry.  That is how they saw the calcifications in my breast and decided a biopsy was needed.  I don't have the results yet.

Seemed I was barely back home when hubby had to go work out of town.

I thought work was going so well.  I am getting along with my supervisor much better, but still making mistakes.  I guess I have lost my focus and can't multitask as is required.  Anyway, I have decided enough is enough.  I am quitting.  Hubby okayed it and said now I can clean the house.  Now, that is a novel idea!

I will miss the people where I work.  I enjoyed the job and didn't realize I was making so many mistakes.
Oh well.  I tried and that's all one can expect.

Vacation is Almost Over!

Vacation Day 3 and 4

Started the day lounging, then decided to walk to the strip mall.  HAD to stop in Bell's department store to get  out of the heat.  I bought a new purse as my traveling purse had decided to fall apart this trip.  My sister also bought a few things.  All was 30% off plus an extra 15% for 50 is Fabulous savings!  Stopped at Sonic on the way back.  I love their burgers and now I love their fries!

Pool Days Interruptus:  Tuesday was at the pool for a while when Mother Nature called in the worst way.
There is a restroom near the pool, but some instances call for your "own."   Enough said.  We went back later.

On Wednesday we went to the pool earlier only to be interrupted by rain clouds.  Got back to the condo before it rained.  We returned to the pool after the outburst, but I tell you, I would never get a tan that way!

For dinner we went to the Black Eyed Pig which has the best barbecued ribs....yum!   ( Pictures to follow.)

Vacation Day 5

Can't believe vacation is almost over.
We joined the Red Hat group here for a food tour.  We boarded a small bus and went to an oilier, a place that sells fresh Olive Oils of all types and flavors.  Never realized there were so many.  Learned all about poly phenols in the oil and how beneficial they are.  For lunch we went to a cafe that  had flat bread sandwiches and scrumptious salad.  (Again, pictures to follow.)  After lunch we went to a Chocolate Store.  OMG!  They could make the chocolate scent into a perfume!  It smelled so good.  We had samples and all had to buy some chocolate for the road!  We finished the tour with a pastry shop.  Their pastries were as pretty as they were tasty.  My cousin and sister bought me a tiramasu cake for my birthday.

We took a much needed rest and then went to the beach to watch the sunset.  We enjoyed lounging on the sand, in anticipation.  The clouds cheated us of a glorious sunset, still the time was so relaxing...would love to take home and savor that memory.

Good News:  My ID came in the mail today from my hubby.  Now I can go home without a hitch.

Vacation - Days 1 and 2

Vacation Day 1

I almost didn't make it to Florida.  I forgot my picture ID.  Fortunately the TSA was kind and gentle that day.
I did have charge cards and a Redbook magazine which had my name and address on it.  I just got it the day before!  I got the full security measure....scanned, a pat down, went through my bags, etc.  So, I made it to Florida and hubby is mailing my ID priority mail!

We went for a late lunch and I had lobster because the price was quite reasonable.  Then we got to my cousin's and settled in and rested.  We went to the beach, went grocery shopping and then picked up burgers and root beer floats.
I love eating on the lanai!

Cousin Shirley had a coworker whose mother quit Red Hats and gave her a bunch of stuff.  I got three items that fit me and my sister chose one that fit her.  Someone in our group will get a lovely jumper/sundress that didn't fit either of us.

Vacation Day 2

My cousin needed a pair of black slacks for work.  My sister and I went a bit crazy!  I purchased a pair of capris, shorts, a scarf, jewelry and some Red Hat jewelry that was on sale!  My sister did pretty well for herself too.

We had a light lunch and later met friends for dinner.  We wore our Sunday best to meet with them.  After all, we are on vacation and wanted to dress up for a change.  After dinner we just enjoyed a night of TV as we were all quite tired.

The Week after Easter

Easter was a wonderful celebration of God and family.  After church we went out to eat and after that we gathered at my brother's house.  My mother had such a good time.

Here she is with her dog on her lap!  My brother has her dog now.
This week has gone well at work....praise God!

I had off Thursday and had to run many errands, one which was a repeat mammogram
of my left breast.  I thought it would be routine.
They used a special magnifying plate and also a small, maybe 4x4" plate to compress the area.
When they compressed it so hard, it brought tears to my eyes, they cranked it two more times.
I have never felt so much pain in a long time.
When I get back from vacation, I get to have a biopsy.  I am not worried as much as I don't like pain.

Tomorrow I leave for Florida!  I am so excited to leave the now dirty snow, the cold temps and relax in the warm sunshine!  It will be so much fun to see my cousin again and get goofy with her.  We both like scrapbooking and I am bring a card kit along to make some cards!

Well, I better get going if I am going to do laundry, paint my toenails, pack, etc.!
