About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

Just a Little News

Today my mom has an endoscopy (swallows a small camera) at the hospital today.  She is 93 and I hope all goes well and they can take care of what ails her.

The weather has been very cool, so spent yesterday at a cook IN at my bff's.  It was raining to top off the colder weather.  Felt like Fall.  The company and food was good none the less.

Did I tell you I have decided against any mundane job for the sole purpose of having a job.  I want a medical office job or nothing.  " Nothing" is looking good right now as I find ways to keep myself busy.

I got some new cabinets inexpensively through Facebook area buy and sell.  The cabinets are white and placed with my other craft cabinets.  I will also accent the walls with white.  When I get all the mess picked up I shall post a picture.

Still having trouble sleeping.  Had a ton of bad dreams last night.

Talked to my cousin.  Her dad is reaching out to her more now.  That is good news and prayer being answered.

Our Little Getaway

Thursday we left for our little getaway. On the way we stopped to pick up Wisconsin cheese curds.  The first of our shopping trip.  (you'll see a trend here).

Our hotel was new and very modern and clean.  I got a good rate, condsidering all the hotels in the area were booking up.  We found out there was some kind of baseball tournament going on.

That night we went to a Mexican restaurant in search of the perfect chimichanga.

Looks delicious, doesn't it?  Well, the ground beef tasted old or something.  Thankfully, we didn't get sick.

That night we drove to a casino.  It was such a beautiful drive along the Wisconsin River through Wisconsin Rapids.  But....would hubby stop so I could take a picture....?  Nooooooooo!  "It's just water."  Men!  I did well at the casino but our son was in a very whiney mood when we left.  He didn't actually expect to win, did he?

Friday we had a good breakfast at the hotel.  We drove to Steven's Point and Jim showed us where he went to school at the university and what dorm he lived in, etc.  We walked around the square.  There are more bars and pubs than shops.  I liked the looks of this one.

All the buildings were older and many had murals of settlers log rolling and such.

There was this group of kids singing for Crazy Days Sales.  I didn't shop, but  I did have to get their picture!

It was then time for the brewery tour.

That's a lot of hops and grain and such.

After the tour, we got to sample the beer.  We had a choice of several beers (I like the lighter beer), root beer,  crème sodas and flavored ciders.  Our son started with the cider.  He isn't a beer drinker at all.  He tasted it and we thought he was going to get sick by the expression on his face.  We couldn't get over his expression and laughed quite a bit.  I preferred the sodas.

My battery died on my camera, so some of my pictures were a bit fuzzy as I had to turn the camera on and shoot quick.

We drove around some more and went back to the hotel to swim and sit and relax in the hot tub.  We had the place to ourselves Friday afternoon!  For dinner we went to a Chinese buffet that had the best seafood, yummmmm!  Didn't get a picture; I was too busy eating!

On the way home Saturday we stopped and bought some corn and also stopped at the Ripon Cookie Outlet Store.  So, you see, it was a shopping trip too.

The Week that Was

I went to my cousin Eva's memorial service on Saturday.  It was a long drive and a longer day.  The funeral and burial were way up north in Wisconsin.  My sister and I saw a few of our  cousins there and were  there mostly to support my second cousin, Shirley (Eva's daughter).  Her dad seems to favor a girl that lived with them in the summer one year, so that is always hard for Shirley to be favored over a non-relative.  It is complicated, but my cousin is a Christian and she is trying to take the high road in a very difficult and hurtful situation.

We then drove further for the burial.  (are we there yet?)  After that we went to their home, visited a bit while Shirley got her bags together.  She went home with us as she had to fly out of Green Bay the next morning.  We stopped along the way and had a delicious chicken buffet!

We went to the nursing home and it was a nice visit.  My brother and his wife came there.  Mom was happy to see everyone including Shirley.

Shirley and I went to Hobby Lobby for a quick trip of shopping and then went home to my house.
We enjoyed going over my scrapbooks and old photos that she had brought.  I taught her how to make a pocket page for scrapbooking and we went to bed....early to rise the next morning!

Shirley is on the right....in happier times.

Jim took me out for breakfast after we dropped Shirley at the airport.  Truck stops are great places for good food!

That night we celebrated Dan's birthday by ordering what he wanted for dinner....Pizza Hut.  I do love the Chicken Alfredo though.

Monday was lunch with my bff, Linda, and another friend, Janice who now lives out of town.  (I sure do eat out a lot!)  They went to the beach.  I went to spend the afternoon with my mom.  They had ice cream sundaes with all the toppings.  We enjoyed ours out in the gazebo.

Last night I went to pick up my son from work and went out to eat again!  It was meant to be as I ran into my old childhood friend, Debbie  We are getting together Tuesday for coffee.  After we ate we went to see Man of Steel at the discount theater.  Tuesday is $2!  The movie was okay but glad I didn't pay full price for it.

Tomorrow I have to prepare the altar for communion, go visit Mom, and then we are going on our mini vacation.  Woo hoo!

An update

My cousin, Eva passed peacefully in her sleep on Saturday at 2:30 am.

Her husband had taken her to the nearest ER on Friday for severe pain.  They administered morphine and she slept most of the day, but not before talking with her husband and saying good bye.  He had the feeling she would not be leaving the hospital.  Now she is in Heaven with our Lord.  I thank everyone for all their prayers and am so thankful that Eva didn't suffer too long and passed so peacefully.  I continue to pray for the relationship between father and daughter, especially now that Eva is gone.

Friday among the Grapes

Yesterday was such a nice day.  Went with bff to visit her sister, Sandy.  We sat outside listening to the birds sing and smelling the sweet scent of flowers.  She has got a lot done with her house but there is so much left to do!  I am sure, bit by bit, it will all get done.
Sandy's yard is full of fruit trees and vineyard!  She has apples, plums, grapes, rasberries.  I told her when they are ready to harvest, we'll be there!

We saw this cute little frog on the plum tree.  At first glance, it looked like some kind of growth on the tree!

We had a nice lunch and looked for a thrift store but they were closed on the 5th.  So, we stopped at a few garage sales.  I came home with a dishcloth.

Changing my profile picture.  I am older and heavier, so here goes.

How do I change my profile picture?  It says I have to have a square image and I don't know how to do it.

Feeling Down

I am feeling down.

Maybe it is because my breast is STILL leaking. (Although there are worse ailments).  It is annoying, none the less.

The 4th was a disappointment to me.  I think I put too much emphasis on holidays.  Then, when it doesn't live up to the hype, I'm disappointed.  Hubby was tired from extra work this week and had to work last night.  We did go to the Lakeshore Picnic, which is new to Manitowoc County.  It was rather spread out.  Think it could have been improved by some craft tents and more picnic tables or varieties of food!  We didn't see one person that we knew.  So, we left early

Since we ate at the picnic, there were no family cookouts.  Note to self:  Next year, have a cookout!!!

I didn't get to the fireworks.  I didn't want to go alone.

So now I am done complaining.  Today I am going with my bff to visit her sister and her new house.  That is always a nice time to get away, so I am looking forward to today and am sure it won't disappoint.

P.S.  My post is not intended to diminish the importance of our Independence Day and being born and raised in a free land.  Oh yes, we have our problems, but it could be so much worse.

What Can I Say?

I haven't been on lately, but have kept up with your posts.

My breast is finally healing after I threatened the doctor that I would sew my incision with fishing line!  She sewed it rather well without fishing line, and now it is healing. No more leaking, no more gaping wound.  Yippee...that chapter is closed for now.

My second cousin was up from Florida to see her Mom, my first cousin, Eva.  Eva has been diagnosed (rather suddenly) with terminal cancer.  She didn't complain until she had a tumor the size of a baseball near her stomach.  The cancer is spreading and Eva and her husband live in the middle of nowhere. (ie. dirt road, bears for neighbors).  She has 3-5 months left.  Her husband is not accepting this well.  My cousin and her mom have made peace with it.  I pray Eva  passes peacefully.  At least she has a pastor who will look in on them once a week.

Okay, some fun!  Went to the scrap booking store out of town with bff.  I bought a card kit which basically all I had to do was glue the cards together.  I prefer more hands on than that.

There are 12 birthday cards, various colors.  They will come in handy.  I saw the most awesome machine, that if you are a scrap  booker, you might be familiar with.  It is the Silhouette Cameo, and I must have it.  It makes the Cricut machine look like a Swiss army knife.  It can cut intricately, draw, emboss and etch with the proper tools.  Wonder if Santa could bring me one?

After the store, we went to Solea for seafood enchiladas.  Yum.  Hubby gave me money so I could have a good day out with my friend.
