About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

Latest Project

After some debate with myself and my finances, I decided to sign up for a class making this picture.
Since paper crafting/card making and such is what I do, I thought it appropriate to make something that I can put up on my wall.  (For now, the photo was taken on my floor)

I just couldn't get the photo to come out much clearer.  It is 12 x 12" and in a black frame.  Maybe I will try again when it is on my wall.  The colors are in teal and aqua and gray and silver.
I would also like to make a Spring, Summer and Fall picture.
Tomorrow I leave for a scrap booking retreat but I think I would rather work on making Christmas cards.  It will be good to get away and I feel I should be able to get a lot done!

I Finally Did It

I finally figured out how to upload/download (?) my photos on my phone to my computer!  Yippee!
First I will start with yesterday.  We went to a fashion show, not your ordinary fashion show though.  It was held at our "Washington House" in Two Rivers, where they were raising money to replace the old windows.
The show featured outfits put together from consignment shops and thrift stores and were incredibly reasonable!  The owner of The Green Armoire is a fashion consultant out of her home.  I had run into her once in a thrift store, quickly grabbing this and that in different sizes.  She certainly has an eye! She showed us, courtesy of the volunteer models, how to put together outfits by changing accessories, etc.  She had models of all ages and sizes.  So fun!  There were also horderves and vendors to visit.
Somehow I managed to miss the model in this pic and you can't tell the  consultant from the cardboard dummies!  Her husband is busy taping.
Last summer my sister and I went to Door County.  My bff had read about this beautiful garden on some blog where it had been featured in a home magazine.  We saw these giants from the road.    My sister, saw someone was home, so she asked if we could stand on the lawn to take a better picture.  He not only obliged, but showed us his entire yard!
They are created with clay pots and plants and designed from French fashion of the 1700's

You can't see it in this photo, but there is a little stream running through and the water pump.
I would love this in my backyard!  You step down into the patio area.  If you look closely you can see there is a chandelier over the picnic table!  I could live there!

Mid Week News

My week started on a down note as Mom was not feeling well and then my sister in law told me that she had said she wishes she would just die.  I do pray she would have better days and not so many where she just doesn't feel good.  Her quality of life is going, and if and when she passes, I pray it is in her sleep.
Tuesday night I went to a Stampin Up party.  We made this cute little angel.
We also made a beautiful Christmas card but I can't post it as my bff would see it  and she might be the recipient of it!
Today went back by Mom and she is feeling better and ate better too.  (She must have had a b.m.  When you are older, it seems it is all about the b.m!)  We went for a walk around the halls and spent the afternoon watching TV.  When Momma is happy, I'm happy!

Pumpkin Patch Fun!

Lately I have been sleeping worse than usual.  Strange dreams again and again!  Otherwise, feeling good ...how about you?
Darn near froze my tookus off yesterday!  It is in the 40's here.  Brrrrrrrr! Went to Polly's Pumpkin Patch with my bff and her grandkids (my nieces and nephews).
There was a hay ride, the corn maze, the duck races, corn cannons and horsey races.
It was cold, started to drizzle, but hey, I don't have any grandkids, and it was fun to see them having fun!

Anniversary Getaway, or Eating, Shopping and Being Together!

Our anniversary is Friday.  We will be married for 33 years!  Where did the time go?
Every year we go away for at least a night to celebrate.  This year we went mid week as it worked well with our son's schedule (and picking him up from work) and also the hotels are less expensive during the week.
We only went to Oshkosh which is about two hours from here.  We stopped for a late lunch.  To work off our meal and after we checked in at the hotel, we went shopping at the Outlet Mall.  We both found many things and started our Christmas shopping!
We had a room with a large Jacuzzi.  I still wasn't ready to use it.  So, we drove around and went out to dinner at a restaurant that was recommended to us.  The French Onion soup was so good, our entrees were so-so.  Still, the companionship and décor of the restaurant was very nice.  I took home half of my meal.  ( I should have gotten the pasta and the heck with Weight Watchers that night!).
I was again, just too full to sit in that Jacuzzi!  Watched TV like the old couple that we are and fell asleep, exhausted from shopping and over eating!
The next morning, like clockwork, I woke up all bright eyed and bushy tailed!
The Jacuzzi calls my name!  (Hey, I didn't pay extra for the room for it to stay empty!).  I'm sure our neighbors didn't appreciate the water running at 6 am, but I couldn't wait!  Ahhhh! Relaxation after a not so good night's sleep.
Breakfast was provided at the hotel.  Who is hungry?  We are!
We then drove around some more.  Went to Oaks Candy Store.  It was recommended by a friend and of course, I had to see if it was as good as she said.  Our local store still has them beat in chocolate and décor.  However, if you are in Oshkosh, don't pass this up.
Is that all the chocolate you want?
A little more shopping.  I decided to go back and buy a scarf that I just loved and goes with three of my sweaters.  I will learn how to wear a scarf!  If I didn't get it, I knew I would regret it.  Jim was all excited cause he bought a "Lint Lizard," a gizmo that helps you to clean the dryer vent!
We met with my niece and her husband and had a very nice lunch at a Mexican Restaurant.   I discovered I do not like Margaritas!  (Tequila...icky!).  Lunch was so enjoyable and loved visiting without distractions of kids running around.  I remember when we were that age.  What happened?
Oh, I am so tired....time to go home!

Has it Been that Long?

I feel like I have been missing in action....at least emotionally.
Last Tuesday my friends, sister, and I went on a day bus trip to Chicago.  It wasn't what I had expected.  I couldn't sleep well the night before (What else is new?).  Then, there was start and stop traffic through Milwaukee and it was making me feel queasy.  I was feeling better by the time we met up with the bus in Milwaukee, but still, sat in the front of the bus (missing where all the action was).
Our destination was some shops on  Clark Street, mostly full of rhinestones and humongous bags!  (It was a Red Hat "bling" trip).  My sister did find a cute birthday fascinator and I got a winter cap.
We got a bus tour of the city and there were a lot of changes since I had visited previously.  It wet my appetite to return to Chicago with my husband to go to the Museums or Navy Pier.
We thought we were going to get a tour of the Chinese cookie factory, but someone had their wires crossed, and all we could do was buy some cookies.  I purchased some almond cookies and chocolate fortune cookies (never saw those before!).  I have been good about the cookies and have showed restraint.
Weight Watchers is going well.  I only lost a bit this week, but the instructor said it was the equivalent of a stick of butter and is still a loss!
I got the results of my lab tests for my kidneys.  At first I was depressed as I saw the numbers, but the nurse reassured me and said the numbers are moving in the right direction, so, slowly but surely!
So that is all that is new.  How about you?  Ready for this Fall weather?

Ups and Downs

Ups and downs.  That is what I have been experiencing this week.  I am thrilled that I lost 2.6 pounds on my first week of Weight Watchers.  Not so thrilled that I lost control and ate like a pig yesterday.
I Googled the kidney diet and found I have been eating really badly.  So, one day I lament, then start up with cooking from scratch and leaving the frozen foods, the processed foods behind, or at least to a minimum.
The fatigue I have been experiencing makes me feel down, or am I fatigued because I am down?  The weather has been gloomy with much needed rain.
Went to a garage sale and also the thrift store.  Found scrapbooking supplies.  "I have too much paper said no scrapbooker ever!" I  found some cute supplies for my camping scrapbook!
I am  not sure what I am doing this weekend.  I suppose I should visit my Mom.  I hate the weekends.  We have little to talk about and she can't see the TV well.  Still, if I don't go today, will go tomorrow with some homemade kidney friendly soup.
The Salvation Army made inquiries about my character and said it was all good.  Now I just have to wait and see if they want me as a volunteer for working in their free clinics.
