About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

The Best of Plans go Awry

On Sunday I was going to decorate the porch, make shrimp jambalaya, but I had the stomach flu.
Cancel the andoulli sausage!  Cancel everything.  Just give me water and another blanket!

Yesterday it was an effort to take a shower and get dressed, but I did.  I had some cubed steaks and planned on following a crockpot recipe.  It was a bit (did I say a bit?) salty and I didn't add any.  I think the French Onion Soup mix put it over the top with the salt!  Will try something different next time, maybe just plain old onion and a little beef base?  Dinner was on the table and everyone liked it.
They have to.  They know I will not cook if they criticize it.

Today I will try and get at my floor, at least sweep.  Maybe work on some cards?

Tomorrow I will make my pie (blueberry; strange tradition) and will try another recipe for sweet potatoes!

How are things at your house?   I am going to wait till it warms up a bit before decorating my porch!
Trying to stay well.

Life is Good

Dear Readers, how have you been?  I'm fine.

Finally got at my bedroom.  (will save the windows and curtains for Spring).  There was a legion of dust bunnies living in my room, most hiding behind and under my bed!  Be gone!

Yesterday I got a call from the Senior Center if I could fill in at reception.  Sure, but I was a bit rusty!
I will have to go in more often to observe!

I was asked to take some online training for the Salvation Army to work in their clinic.  I  haven't heard anything new since then.

I haven't felt like crafting but the cleaning bug has bit me.....also cooking...imagine that!  Yesterday I made some potato soup.  It got orange from the carrots and wasn't creamy, but it tasted good!

So, that is all that is new.  Life isn't always exciting, but it's good.

When I Don't Feel Like Cleaning!

I have had this magnetic frame for page layouts for over a year.  Time to do a layout I can hang in my living room.

Along the Way

On the way to retreat we made some stops.  First, we stopped at Archivers, my favorite scrap booking
store!  Drove quite a ways and stopped at these shops along the way.  Who could resist?  The buildings are cute....even in the rain!

We didn't stop in the fudge store!

The St Vincent de Paul Thrift Store is in this "church."

My only purchase was a turtleneck with snowflakes on it, but it was fun to stop!

Scrapbooking Retreat

This past weekend my bff and I went off toward Waupaca to the beautiful Crossways Camp, Pine Lake for a scrapbooking weekend.  The lodge is beautiful with all the amenities.  Some Fall color yet, crisp cool air, some drizzle, a whole lot of scrap booking and laughing.  I forgot to mention the food....so yummy.  Next time I have GOT to take pictures of that!

I mostly worked on Christmas Cards....some turned out, some not so much, but I will post the better ones at a later date!
