About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

Forgive me my Trespasses

Sometimes a person says things they can't take back.  I did such a thing.  It is worse when it is in an email or on Facebook for all the world to see.
I felt hurt and I wanted that person to know and hurt too.  Was it stupid?  Yes!  Immature?  Yes!
I cannot take it back.  I tried to apologize but difficult to do when the person I hurt won't listen to me.
I keep that person in my prayers and love him with all my heart, but I am human do stupid things.

The After Christmas

What happens after Christmas?  I visited my sister who gave me more cookies, then on to my brother's house where my sister-in-law gave me coconut fudge.  Yes, I am eating it all and the scale
doesn't lie!  Eventually it will be gone and I can go back to watching my weight.
My son and I went to visit Mom the other day.  There was a "not so good" band playing in the
"town square."  I sat there and watched my son who is 28.  Not exactly his kind of music: gospel, a polka and Johnny Cash.  Mom enjoyed it though.  What we endure for those we love!
That night we went to see "The Hobbit, The Desolation of Smaug."  We didn't realize this was a sequel to a movie I got for Christmas (The Unexpected Journey).  We also didn't realize that it is a prequel and ended abruptly without a conclusion!  We then went to Applebees for half price appetizers...can't go wrong on that!
Yesterday I went with my bff  to her son and daughter in law's house.  They live in "the middle of nowhere" according to my Godson.  They have a very nice family and I have a soft spot for the granddaughter who is 13 already!  I gave her a bunch of nail polishes which she greatly appreciated.
Coming home I tried to catch the sunset, but is difficult in a moving vehicle!
Too bad we were on the freeway, or we could have pulled over.
My bff did take a detour before taking us home.  We went to a house that has Christmas lights to music.  Spectacular and much appreciated!

Christmas Celebration

Christmas was nice, but being the hostess and having Mom here, I don't get to visit with everyone like I'd like to.  I feel I have to attend to Mom's needs.  My sister and I share in that pretty much. Mom liked my village and decorations.
There was the family drama as my nephew chose not to come and join us.  That is a post in itself!
Just pray for E and his wife and family.
If you are going to take pictures, be sure you have a memory card in your camera!
The kids liked their Rudolph candy bar wrappers (and of course the candy bar!).  Is that why they couldn't stand still?
Took a picture of Mom...that didn't turn out.
Connie, Stan, Mom and myself
Our grill and deck are full of snow.  Our curbs and street are full of snow.  We had snow, then another 8 inches, then some more snow.  STOP!
Christmas Day we went to church and exchanged gifts when we got home.  I got a Soda Stream.  I love it!  I don't especially love their version of Dr. Pepper.  It is Pepper's poor cousin, Dr. Pete... he isn't so good.  My son bought me a new printer/scanner.  Yeah!  Now I can finally scan my old photos!
Christmas morning brings out the goofiness in us.
He really does like his new pants!  You know you are getting old when you like work pants and shirts!

It was a quiet day; a day for naps.

Merry Christmas to All

Merry Christmas!

I have been so happy.  Why is that, my husband asked.  It is simply because I don't have anything to be sad about....at least not in my life.
On the other hand....
I have a sister who misses her late husband at this time of year.
I have a dear friend who feels like she wasn't able to savor the season.  She has been running around like a chicken with her head cut off and can't relax!   Her family is suffering from dysfunction with a capital D and that makes me hurt for her.
I want everyone to feel the joy of the holiday.  It's not the cookies, or how clean the house is, or extensive the decorating.  It's not the presents, but the presence....of Christ in our hearts
that is the most important thing.
I pray this for all my friends and for all who read this, that this holiday (make that HOLY DAY) would be a blessing to you.

Mom's Christmas Party

This year's Christmas Party is not work related or anything like that.  It is at the
health care residence where my mom lives.  It was very nice this year.
Here is the tree in the "town square"  where she lives.  The place is decorated to look like an old time village.  The church, bank, etc.  The ceiling is painted with clouds and is vaulted down the hallway to the units.
The Elves get ready to do their thing!

See his/her nose light up!
Rudolph is always extra sweet to my Mom

Mom got a bath gift from Santa with the lotion, spray and bath gel. She didn't quite know what to do with it.  We told her to take the gel along when the aide gives her a bath/shower, then lotion up and spray herself so she smells extra good!  She also got a Word Search book but since her vision is going, she gave that to my sister (in the red sweater).
The music was nice and Mom showed "Rudolph" a few dance steps as she held on to her wheelchair for support!

A Day out in the Snow!

I am trying to get our church to be a bit more social.  With that in mind, I planned an outing to Pinecrest Historical Village. for A Holiday in History.  The plan was to meet at the church at 11am.
It was snowing, the roads were a bit slippery and it was about 20°.  We were going to carpool.  The only people to show up were pastor and his wife, my bff and another friend.  Oh well, those who snooze, lose!

Father Christmas gave out candy canes!

My godson enjoyed the telegraph!
Making lefska!

This old exam table has the stirrups up!

Shake, shake, shake!  Making butter in the cheese factory!

Update on Mom

There was nothing found on the cat scan.  After a more thorough examination, the Nurse Practitioner thinks that Mom has swelling in her abdomen and legs from right sided congestive heart failure.
Maybe that is par for the course when you are 94?  I think I need to talk to the nurse and get more information.

It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas!

We got the house as decorated as it is going to get.  I decorated my tree the same as last year, with all handmade ornaments.  Many are beaded ornaments that I made early in our marriage and many from ornament exchanges with crafty friends.
This will always be my favorite.  It is beaded with a little Nativity scene in it.
This is my Nativity.  Nothing expensive or collectible, but a gift from my sister one year as I had always wanted a Nativity of my own.
The "Baileys" live in the house on the corner.
One year, or was it two, my sister and I were into Christmas villages.  I haven't put it out in a long time.  Where I used to put it is full of papers, books etc., so I put it on top of our entertainment center.  I did it for my Mom.  I have over ten houses, an ice rink, bridge, light posts, etc., but it is a lot of bother.  She will appreciate this much though.  Her eye sight is going bad now, so I have to do what I can.
I haven't taken a picture of my porch yet as we have sub zero temperatures with the wind chill. That is not my ideal picture taking weather!

Let the Christmas Spirit continue!

Well, Mom's cat scan was delayed till Thursday.  The nursing home forgot to order her prep.
Sometimes, I wonder, but then, they are supposed to know what they are doing, aren't they?
I went to a Stampin Up party Monday night and we made three cards!
Last night was my Red Hat Christmas Party.  Our service at the restaurant was VERY poor.  We waited a very long time for our food, salads came without dressing, soup with the entrĂ©e,....  I did feel sorry for the waiter though as he had 16 of us and those in the bar area as well.  That is a bit ridiculous when you make reservations, they should have enough staff!  The food was okay, but nothing to write home about.  Still we managed to have fun.  We played a fun swap game:  White Elephant Poem.  You should check out the Santa Lady's website for other fun games and such.
My partner and I made these place cards.  They are Hershey bars!  I used a red pom pom ball for the nose.
Think I best decorate or make out Christmas cards today!

I am experiencing such peace.  I hardly ever cry anymore (unless I see a sad or miraculous news story).
I have my porch decorated, but I need a new tree for the porch, so off to the thrift store this morning!
I finished 90% of my Christmas cards but now I have to address them!  Ugh!  Here are a few of my favorites:
My Mom is having a cat scan of her abdomen today.  I pray there is nothing seriously wrong as I know she fears cancer the most.  Mom is 94 but if she dies, I would pray that she go peacefully in her sleep.
A Thanksgiving we won't forget:  My sister forgot to turn the oven on so the turkey wasn't getting done.  Well, d'oh!   She quickly called the store and got an already roasted turkey (not as tasty as hers)  She put hers in the Nesco roster to be eaten later.  Saturday night we had Thanksgiving dinner again!  I took some turkey home for turkey in gravy, turkey enchiladas, turkey soup.
I have most of my shopping done, although I might pick up a few extras tomorrow morning.
How are you doing?
