About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

My Week Starts on Friday!

Since I am retired, I feel like my week begins on Friday.

Last Friday we enjoyed the last Fish Boil at the Senior Center.

First, we were entertained by the young people who did a performance from
101 Dalmatians.

Had to be sure we signed up for door prizes (we didn't win) whether we had food allergies, etc.,

Mr. Carp came for a visit

The fish boil is only $3.50 for those over 60.  I usually give more. (boiled whitefish, carrots, onions, baby reds and rye bread...and some rhubarb crisp)!

The week has been uneventful.  I did stop at Goodwill and found two tops that are 50% off.  They were in perfect shape and fit!  I also picked up some doo-dads for my bff.

I also read the book, The Help.  I had seen the movie, but the book, as usual, was better.  I couldn't put it down, and I am not a big reader.  I had headaches all week from reading!  I was sad when I had finished, as I wanted to know more about the characters.  I get so attached to them.

I have to get ready for my great nephew's wedding this weekend.  I  polished my toes and need to do my fingernails tonight.  I used a new Gel polish from Avon.   It is very glossy looking and looks like a gel polish.  I have to iron my sundress and make a pasta salad.  The wedding is in the park and very casual.

The County Fair is going on, but don't think I will be attending this year.  Besides, last time I was there, it was with my Mom.  I still miss her so.

I am getting into genealogy.  So far, I have traced my mother's father's side to my great grandfather who was born in Prussia and how and where he met his wife.  Everything written about them speaks of their deep love for one another.

You wouldn't think by looking at this picture, that these are the love birds!  I am wondering if they are holding an anniversary cake?
