About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

Babies, Cars and Earrings!

Nothing like sweet babies to cheer one up.  They have no knowledge of the snow, cold, ice, etc.  This is my great nephew, Tommy.  He is four months here and is growing!  I miss him and if it ever gets nice out again, I hope to go visit him!

Yesterday was somewhat balmy out.  14°F  Hubby and I took a trip to Green Bay.  (I had wanted to go in the opposite direction to look at this car).

It is a 2012 Chevy Impala...perfect for me!  Hubby is in no rush.  I don't care....I know what I am interested in and I have looked around the car lots online and studied the specs.  Maybe some day it will get warmer again (the 20's?) and we can go take it for a spin if it's still there.

I digress.  We went to Green Bay to return a scarf that I bought.  It wasn't what I wanted and I had "settled" for it.  Then, the one I wanted showed up on the Christopher and Banks website, so I got it!
Woo hoo!  I ended up getting a pretty pink and gray top for Valentine's Day.  Mind you, it's not the motif, but the color of pink and magenta that remind me of Spring to come.  After that,  I bought some CZ studs for my ears so I can look like I have diamonds!  They aren't as big as the football players diamonds though!  I wear the same earring for days, so I always wanted some sparkly ones!   I also bought some hand weights for when I return to Jazzercise tomorrow.  (I know, not too exciting).  I am excited about returning to Jazzercise though.  Maybe it will help to keep me healthy and young!

Today it got quite ugly out.  I was at my sister's this morning and when I went to pick my son up from work, I had to brush the falling snow off of  my car and just couldn't keep up with the windows till the heat kicked in!  The roads were slick.  I am tired of winter and the slippery roads and cold temps!  How about Spring?

I Need Spring!

Found this on Facebook.  It's the way I feel!  We have -20°F to -30°F wind chill temperatures today.  It is actually 4°  Whoop de doo!

I have been without my own car this week.  My husband has been using mine while his is in the shop.  I feel cooped up.  I have decided that  when I have a car again, I will go out no matter how cold it gets!  I am also viewing another car online.  It is a Chevy Impala in red.  Woo hoo!  Low mileage and priced okay too.  Don't know when I want to look at it or go for a test drive.

This week I volunteered at the reception desk at the Senior Center on Wednesday, went to a Red Hat Queen's planning meeting - always some disagreement there, but enjoyed the lunch!

I have been searching for pictures.  I lost some of my Mexico trip pictures.  I don't know where they are, so I am going through every envelope and organizing by decade and year.  Many don't have negatives, so once I determine what are keepers, I will have to scan them and save them to a zip drive.  Many were taken before online albums and owning a computer.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I realized I take too many pictures and want to save the ones that really matter!

In February my bff and I are going to a scrapbooking retreat and I plan on scrapbooking my trip to St Thomas (2002).   They are in an icky photo album and need to be acid free.

What are you doing this weekend?  I have to get to Hobby Lobby or Goodwill or somewhere!

I need Spring!

Random Thoughts

Not a whole lot new here.  I am still having nightmares, waking up thinking I am crying, but my jaw is clenched.  I appease myself with chocolate chip cookies.  My diet and all my good intentions have gone to hell in a hand basket!

Something is wrong with my husband's car, so he is using mine.  That leaves me without a car.
I have been looking at cars, and have my eye on a little blue Ford Focus.  I feel like that car has just called my name,  but, maybe I should wait and see how our finances shake out after taxes.  My husband said there will always be good deals, but is his car going on the fritz an omen?  I just have to trust God if it is meant to be, it will be.

Saturday night we went out to dinner.  I need my "dates" with my hubby!  We went to a bar that was recommended to us for having good food.  It is a bar in the middle of the country and it has a side room.  I had a NY strip with sautéed shrimp for $15 and Jim had the strip steak for $10.  Our food was delicious!  We will be going back.  The side room was quite nice, and even though the bar got quite rowdy, we enjoyed ourselves.

Stampin Up Party

I went to a Stampin Up party last night.  I didn't think the hostess was having that many people.  Boy, was I wrong!  I don't do well in large groups (I get nervous) but I concentrated on helping the lady next to me.  We made this cute (two sided) snowman (his hat has kind of disappeared in the background).  You can put a fun size candy bar in him!

Then, we made a rather complicated card.  We used Core'dinations, the Sidekick for cutting, the chalkboard effect,  and a lot of folding and gluing!  I decided this card is too good to be given away!

I signed up to have a party (Surprise hubby Jim!).  I could earn free product and there is something I want that is quite expensive.  (I don't think I will have as many guests coming to my party!)  I will be going to many parties like this.  It is something to do on a cold evening and they have snacks!
(it's all about the food...lol)

I Need to Sleep!

I have had problems sleeping.  I sleep too much during the day and not enough at night.

I get bad dreams, or have to go to the bathroom.  I fall back asleep right away, but wake up with headaches or feeling upset from the dreams (which I don't even remember).  I had such a time last night.

This morning I will be tired.  This afternoon I will be tired.  I will have all to do to stay awake past 8pm tonight.  I have talked to my doctor about it.  She says it is because of my kidney disease.  My kidney doctor  says it is because of my ostomy.  All I know is I am tired all day, all night.  What to do?  I am thinking of going back to the doctor.  I cannot accept these pat excuses.  I NEED TO SLEEP!

Good Things

Before Christmas it was necessary to straighten out (clean) my craft area!  I had not seen my table or the floor in a long time.  Now, it is not quite there yet, but this is what I've got.

It is part craft area, part family room and bar.  We never use it as a family area and the bar is only used for holidays.  I wish I had painted ALL of the paneling.  Maybe some day I will get ambitious and do the rest.

I have an update on my great, great nephew, Thomas.  Saw him before Christmas and after (but he was crabby and sleeping).  Of course you want to see pictures of him, right?

He looks like all boy!

Saturday was family day and time to get away from the cabin fever of this cold.  It was actually a balmy 28°F that day.  We picked up some boots that I ordered online, then on to Christopher and Banks where I spent most of my Christmas gift card.  I got a really neat reversible vest
(Of course this isn't me.)  The other side is navy with a bit of a subtle checked pattern.

I can wear it now and into Summer on the lakeshore!  LOVE IT!

After I was "spent" shopping, we went on to Sam's Club where I had a coupon (Groupon)
for $20 merchandise and $20 gift card if I joined.  After stocking up, and even though we had plenty of groceries, we went to our favorite pizza place.  Yum!  What a perfect day and got home before the Arctic Blast came in.

Life is such a Blast!

I am not liking this Artic Blast.  I am ready to move to the southern hemisphere as it sounds like the rest of the country is having the awful weather too!  Today we are catching a break.  It is 21° F now.  Good time to run some errands before the second blast comes in.
The wind is still blowing so it can't be too warm, but I'll take it.

Yesterday I had a pleasant surprise.  The person I spoke of in my last post unblocked me from Facebook and messaged me, offering forgiveness and seeking forgiveness for his part in our "disagreement."

I have intentions of going to Jazzercise, but I hate to go anywhere for an hour in this weather.  I bought workout clothes, but it didn't fit so will wear what I own.  I did buy a sports bra.  It is an X-large.  I think bras should come in an X-long too!  (Wink!)

I don't have any resolutions of sorts and would rather not review my year.  It wasn't the best of times.
I am so glad I am retired and can start this new year on a different foot!  Maybe if I had a resolutions, it would be to get healthier this year.

I saw this on Facebook and had to share it with you.  Good words to live by.
