About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

Playing Catch Up!

My birthday weekend was great!

Me and my Godson, J, celebrating our April birthdays!  We stopped in to give him his gift on our way out to dinner.

I saw this beautiful sky after dinner and had to capture the moment!

I always buy altar flowers for church on my birthday (that's how I get flowers!).  We are allowed to take them home after the service.

My sister and I "modeled" in the window at Christopher & Banks
We earned 40% off any items.  I bought a jacket (not this one).
Why did they put me with this tall, lovely woman?
Well, we had fun, waving to all the gawkers!
Celebrating National Red Hat Day.  On our birthday month, we wear red with a purple hat!

Most of the Purple Royal Belles! (our group)  There were maybe 50 -60 women from our area who attended the banquet.

Some of us were getting our groove on!
He really did sound like Johnny Cash!
....and he really did sound like Neil Diamond!
They put on a good show and really play the crowd!  Last year they were younger and older Elvis, and have many impersonations.
On another note.  I have felt so good on the antibiotic....wish I could stay on it, but I am done.
The urogynecologist's office called and an appointment is set up for next Wednesday!  I told the nurse that in no way will I have a cystoscopy without some time of sedative, so we will see what happens.  I just need a physician with a care plan, other than "if you're not bleeding, come back in a year!"
I also have a few periodontal appointments.  Will I be hurting on both ends?  I hope not!

Just a note

Just a short note to let you know I am still alive.
Last week I had a hunch there was more wrong with me that usual.  (Is it possible?)
I had a UTI.  (urinary tract infection)  What a blessing!  I have been feeling so much better on the antibiotic.  I wish I could stay on it.  The physician assistant I saw is speaking to my primary caregiver about referring me to a urogynecologist.  I told him I am so disgusted with my care or lack thereof.
I have been so tired; I haven't felt like blogging.  I had a great birthday and I could have written about that, but didn't.
Tonight is our national Red Hat banquet.  (National Red Hat day is April 25th).  Six chapters (or is it five?) attend and we have a nice dinner and entertainment and raffle prizes.
So, maybe I will be back shortly, and maybe not.

Not Complaining

Not much new here.
I am still struggling with this IC diet.  I was so much wanting a root beer.  One night I had one and I was okay.  Then, the next day I had another.  Both were caffeine free, but carbonation is NOT my friend.  That evening it felt like I had drank hydrochloric acid!
So, I am back to following the diet.
I see the physical therapist who is working with the scar tissue I have "down there."  I guess I am glad she is a she and that we can have a pleasant conversation while she is stretching me!
I take my meds when I don't feel good, and am learning to like herbal tea!  Never thought I would say that!
Last night was our Red Hat meeting.  Several of us have April birthdays.  When it's your birthday month, you wear red with a purple hat (or head piece).   I took this off of my purple hat that was too darn big for me!

Backt to Reality and Normal?

Okay, I came back to reality and maybe ten loads of laundry.  So, what have I been up to, besides my elbows in laundry?
Last Tuesday, I had just arrived for Bible Study when I got a call from my son.  He was called in to work a full day and I needed to drive him there.  (He does not drive because of visual problems related to his CP).  Okay, so now what?  Too late to get back to Bible Study class, but a good day for thrifting!  I found a lint roller at the first store, an expandable grabber a t the second store, and two Hawaiian shirts  and a little basket at the third store.  Everyone needs a lint roller, the grabber is just what I need to get things off the top shelf, and the shirts are for an upcoming Hawaii theme night for Red Hats.  I am not sure what or where I am putting the basket, but after reading about how one of the bloggers loves to put things in trays, I thought I'd give it a try.
Here is my awful night stand:

The little basket has partitions, great for all those little bottles of stuff! (I moved some of the other things.)
My sister-in-law called and told me she was done with our son's memory quilt.  I had saved t-shirts since he was about 4 years old.  I had intentions of making it for his high school graduation, then his college graduation, but my intentions stopped there.  This summer he will be 30, so I approached my sister-in-law who is an excellent quilter.  She only charged me for the backing!  Not only did she make the quilt, but two large pillows!
(Hard to believe that guy on the left is almost 30!)  Not all the t-shirts could be used, but Dan was quite pleased with it.  It includes everything from Nickelodeon  Studios, middle school, boy scout camp,  and Metallica!
My favorite great niece (my only great niece) doesn't belong to Sunday School, so I thought if she doesn't already know, she should know the true meaning of Easter.  She was quite pleased with the book she got in the mail!
My sister called me to tell me that her great grandson, Tommy, was coming over, but it was evening and I was too tired to visit.  She always sends me pictures though.

He is such a good natured little boy, and such a cutie with those big blue eyes!
This week is back to normal!  I went to church, Bible Study, and last night was invited by a church friend to go to a "Woman's Night Out" where we had the chance to win a door prize, sample and buy products, and find out more about the vendors.  It was a pleasant evening, and I restrained myself from buying or signing up for anything!  We then went out for a sandwich and got to know one another more.  Pleasant evening!
