About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

Relay for Life and other News

I never did go to my class reunion.  By the time the weather cleared up last  Saturday, I decided to stay home and do laundry!  I didn't really feel like going alone.
The week was quiet.  On Monday, I met with my sister and we finally went through Mom's jewelry and papers.  We each took some things, but most of her jewelry was costume jewelry and will go in my rummage sale.  I took Mom's little gold wedding band from our dad.  I am also the keeper of the birth and baptism certificates. I love this one from Germany.  Mom was born in Wisconsin but the church used these certificates.  It was falling apart, tearing at the creases.  I just put it in a frame.

This last weekend was the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.  I went to support my bff, Linda.
After we were done there, Linda and I went to a rummage sale with scrapbooking things. One can never have too many crafting supplies!
I have a shopping problem!  With the Internet, and Pay Pal, it is just too darn easy!  Lately I have purchased model Cindy Crawford's "Meaningful Beauty" system and should have skin just like hers and look decades younger!  (Early morning infomercial!)  I purchased a new and improved Sonic Electric Toothbrush  (a deal on one of the morning TV shows).
I have also discovered Scrapbook selling sights and bought some embellishments.  Oh, and of course, I had to have some of these purse organizers.  I can use them for my Bible journaling, scrapbooking, or to organize my purse!
I have also purchased a new item for over my sofa, but will wait until hubby hangs it up to show you a picture!
Lately, I can't hang on to money.  We should probably purchase a new stove and refrigerator while I still have it.

Everything but the Kitchen Sink!

It's been a quiet week.  That's okay!
I want to have a Garage Sale in August.  I have been going through my jewelry.  I have way too much!  (Oh, there's that earring that I was missing for years!)  I am undecided whether to include clothing in my sale ...  women's clothes don't go well.  I have tons of jewelry and also crafts.  I want others to put stuff in too, and I am borrowing tables from a friend.
I had a Jamberry  Facebook party.  Today is the last day to order!  (My name is Debbie W if you want to give my party credit!).  I love the nail wraps, but I have VERY damaged lumpy thumbs, so I ordered the nail lacquers and Smooth it Out nail base.  I will use the wraps for accent nails.  I recently tried acrylic nails for my thumbs, but they lifted right away.  Then I got one nail fixed, and that also lifted.  The result, is my nail (my real nail) started to peel!  Not a pretty sight!
The good news, is that it IS healing and the nail is restoring itself.
My son's birthday was this week.  Hard to believe he is 30 years old!  My husband had golf league, so Dan and I went out to eat at Applebees'.  I had ordered one of the low calorie selections, but I hated the taste!  All I could taste is lemony broccoli!  So I ended up sending it back and ordered what my son had:  the Macaroni and Cheese with Honey flavored Chicken Strips.  I am sure it was 4-5 times the amount of calories, but it sure is tasty!  (I only ate half and took half home).
The next day I went out to breakfast with my hubby.  We haven't done that in quite a while.  I had purchased a Groupon for $10 for a $20 credit!  It was delicious and relaxing!
I lost my scrapbook journaling pens!  I made a trip to Hobby Lobby.  I like that I can just pull up the coupon on my phone!  Sometimes, technology rocks!  There was something that caught my eye.
Oooh, it looks so good with my sofa!  I can't wait to have my husband hang this for me.
A friend of mine introduced me to Bible Journaling.  It is a combination of study and art all done in an art book or your Bible.  I had purchased a Bible for this purpose.  My first page is not quite done.  I needed the journaling pens.  I am learning the hard way what mediums bleed through, etc.  I would suggest that if you are going to try this, to purchase an old Bible at a thrift store or even use an art book.  I could have saved a lot of money!
I was all excited to get my Crayola Twistables and Pencils bucket!  I also picked up these Project Life cards and hope to incorporate them somehow into my journaling.  I would never be able to explain this to my husband!
Thunderstorms are going through.  Today is a tour of my old high school and also the 45th class reunion.  It is being held at a park.  Hmmm.  Wonder how the weather will be.  I will just take my umbrella and play it by ear.  I really want to take the tour!
Have a good weekend!

Another Busy Summer Week!

Another busy week!
I started out the week with a visit to my nephrologist (kidney doctor).  I am still Stage IV, but no
changes in my lab work, so that is good.  Go back in 6 months!  I am a boring patient, but that is good!
Tuesday night was our Red Hat Luau at our Queen's house.  Sandi and her husband went all out decorating and she had yummy Mai Tai's (alcoholic and non alcoholic).  The food was delicious!
I discovered I do NOT like poi.  Yuck!  We each got a gift from her and I got some colorful socks!  Those are always nice.  Can't have too many pairs of socks!  Sandi said she got everything, the leis, the flowers for our hair, the decorations, gift bags, etc. at the Dollar Bill store!  (The Dollar Tree, but shall now be known as the Dollar Bill store!)
On Wednesday, my sister and I went on a bus trip with the Senior Center for an over nighter!
First, we went to the Brewer game.  For a time they were losing badly, my sister was nodding off, but then in the bottom of the 8th, a home run, and they scored two more!  It was exciting!

After the game, we departed for Harrah's Casino in Joliet, Illinois.  We hit 5 o'clock traffic so it was slow going.  The air conditioning on the bus made me cold.  I was tired, cold and hungry!  I ended up using my heating pad to warm up my legs.  We didn't get there till almost 9pm.  We got into our room, then roamed the place to find the restaurant.  The lines had settled down, by the time we got our coupons and such so we were able to order and sit down.  The food was good and cost us a whopping $1.65 for the both of us, after coupons!
We played the slots a little bit.  My sister won $40 and I lost $40.  Time for bed!  They had the most comfortable rooms!  We couldn't hear the AC, the bed was huge and SO comfortable and we both wanted to take our pillow home.  (We didn't).
The next morning we just ordered breakfast and decided to eat in our room  No more slots for me, but that was okay.
Next, on to the race track!
Our new Director, Tammy and the bus driver!

We wore our sweatshirts, but it actually got quite hot out and I
 even got a sunburn!

Of course, I didn't win anything at the races either, but my sister won a little bit.  It is all automated betting machines.  It took a while before we learned what we were doing, so we could lose our money twice as fast!  Well, I always set myself a limit!
We had a good time, nice talk on the way home, a pleasant dinner at Culvers' and got home around 9pm.  I was exhausted!

What a Week!

What a week!
On the 27th we went to my Godson's graduation party.  I was surprised at how he greeted each of us so graciously!  (Maybe he is growing up?)
I forgot his card!  My nephew forgot his card!  My sister forgot his portrait!  Oh well, no worries.
The day was nice.  There was a ton of food!
My other nephew and his wife (who he is not living with) and the boys came to the party.
There is a lot of drama in this story.  Needless to say, they need your prayers.  The wife has the boys.
I do not like her and I don't think she is a good mother.  My heart goes out to the boys, especially my other Godson who is the middle child.  He is very unhappy and acts up probably because of it.
It is a family situation that really needs your PRAYERS!
Then there was the Supreme Court decision this last week.  I don't know what side you are on, but I am on the side of the Lord!  Heated discussions with my husband and son about this.  Felt judged on Facebook as being judgmental and hateful.  It is a lonely and fearful place to stand when you stand on the word of God.  I never said anything mean or hateful, but that is how things are interpreted.
From all that happened between my nephew and this, I came up with this little poem.
My tears stream down from all the pain.
I feel alone in my disdain.
I do not hate nor do I judge,
But from my convictions,
I will not budge.
So let me live as I will,
Till tears stop falling
and my heart is still.
I am in a Bible journaling group that mixes art and the Word.  They post pictures of their work.  I posted my poem and said I planned on putting it in my Journal Bible by a verse about homosexuality.  Well, my  post was censored and it was deleted.
I ended up entering it by I Corinthians 16:13 --- Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
I then posted an apology as I don't wish to offend anyone, but will continue to stand by my convictions.  I also stated that I thought the group was more about art and less about the word of God.  Many people came to my support.  That post was also deleted.
A third post was started by those who believed as I did that it wasn't really representing the word of God, but was about the art.  DELETE!
The long and short of it is that I made many new Christian friends who started a new Bible journaling group, where we are free to post our beliefs and agree to disagree without censorship!
Made this little "purse" filled with cards!
