About Me

My photo
I have spent a great deal of my life battling illness. I suffered from Crohn's Disease and eventually had abdominal surgery, thwarting the Crohn's and budding cancer cells. Since my surgery in 1995 I have been relatively free from Crohns', although I had several subsequent surgeries related to my ileostomy..When my disease was in remission, I don't think my husband realized how bad it could get, but he has stood by me. I also have suffered from various autoimmune disorders and am diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease. Fortunately, I am maintaining and do not need dialysis at this point. We adopted our son and later found out he had cerebral palsy, so he became my career. Dan has had two surgeries and tons of therapy and is able to walk because of it. He is a college graduate and is employed as an Information Specialist. We are very proud of his accomplishements. I am now part of the retired generation and still getting used to the idea. I do enjoy crafting, traveling and being with family and friends. I am active in my church and feel that the hardships we endure are there to build our faith. I like to live life in the "now" as we never know how much time is left.

Stamping, Pain, Vacation and More!

As you have already surmised, I am quite impestuous.  At the crop last weekend, I signed up with
Close to My Heart.  That link takes you right to my website where you can order!
I don't really want to have crops or huge card classes.  That just isn't me.  My dream would to grow a virtual customer base and earn enough to keep me in stamps.  My next order of business is to watch training videos and create a card.
Next weekend I am going with my friends, Carolee and Gwen to the Sayner Stampede.  We have our little stops along the way.  Carolee and Gwen will be working at the Round Robin (where people go "round" and make six different cards).  I will be in the motel room resting.  On Saturday we visit the  used stamp sale.  I still have to price my things for the sale!  The Sayner Lioness takes care of this sale and does a wonderful job!  For their work, they get to keep 20% of the profits.  We also go visit the vendor booths and make the "make and take" cards.  My main interest this year is to do the make and takes and have fun.  I certainly don't need to shop unless I find something that I HAVE to have!
My tummy continues to be a source of pain and irritation (no pun intended).  Thankfully, my new medical supplies came in the mail yesterday and hopefully will resolve my problems.  If not, I am determined to call Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee for an appointment.
I had a bad cough this week so I couldn't see Linda or take her to the clinic.  Her breathing was becoming more labored, even after they did another thoracentesis (to drain the fluid around her lungs) last week.
Carolee took her to the doctor Thursday and after more tests, they decided that she needs surgery and a permanent tube to drain the fluid around her lungs.  At least she will be able to breathe better!  I have felt so bad that I could not see her.  I don't know what to say to her.  What can I say?  Tomorrow I will see her and Monday she will have her surgery.  Kevin has been at her side.
Vacation Continued
The next morning we got up early to board the train that would take us to the Grand Canyon, but first, we watched the "Wild West" show.  It was quite entertaining and wonderful, especially for the kids!
We then boarded the train.  Jim and I were on a luxury dome car.  I had a Virgin Mary and we could help ourselves to the breakfast bar of yogurt, fruit and pastries.

Breakfast of Champions!

No, this isn't my husband!
This isn't him either!

The Grand Canyon National Park!

As you can see, pictures don't do it justice!
Bible Journaling
I have been trying my hand at drawing and Bible journaling.  This is for 1 Peter 5:8
"Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour."  ESV
It is kind of a skinny lion...maybe that is why he's seeking someone to devour!

Day Crop and Vacation Continued

I know I am really lagging behind in my blog.  Too much going on.  That's not necessarily a bad thing.
Day Crop
This last weekend I went to a day crop.  It was a whole day, from 9-9 of scrapbooking, laughing, and
eating!  (not in that order!)  I was working on our church scrapbook and got quite a bit done.  There were games for raffle prizes.  I won some page layouts (paper) and two boxes of photo paper!  I also won $15 off of my order, and 50% off of my next item of my choice.  The girls who were holding the crop provided the meals, like bagels and fruit; cold cuts etc. for sandwiches, chips, dips, and in the evening Sloppy Joes, and pasta salads.  Yum!
The long and short of it was that  I signed up with Close to My Heart.   That link will take you right to my website!  I am hoping to be more of an online consultant, as I have too many health problems to be lugging stuff all around!
I am offering a free gift to the person who puts in their first order with me!
I am still having health problems, mainly my psoriasis on my tummy and pain with my ileostomy (not normal).  I am waiting for different medical supplies to arrive.  One type feels more comfortable, but is worse for my skin.  The other is better for my skin, but I end up with more pain.  If things don't resolve themselves with my new medical supplies, I decided to go to Milwaukee to Froedtert Medical Center.  I am sick of running all over the place for this, and not getting anywhere!
Vacation Continued
On the second day of vacation we were driving up to Williams, AZ.  On the way we stopped at
Rock Springs Café.  It was such a coincidence in that is the place Jim's friends took the guys when they were down on their golfing trips!  They have excellent food and home cooking!  Jim didn't even realize it until we were inside the café!
We got to Williams in the afternoon.  The
Grand Canyon Railway Hotel was lovely and within walking distance of "downtown."  The downtown is on Route 66 and consists mostly of restaurants and gift shops.
The historic brewery intrigued me.  It is a micro brewery with many different types of beer and ale and also gourmet sandwiches and side!
Jim enjoying the carrot cake, with pieces of carrots in and like a carrot type
of sauce, whipped cream and ice cream!
She is writing all the special beers.  Jim had one that had Undercover Cucumber.
I wanted him to try Funky Gold Medina, but he declined.

After the long night before, we were ready for an early bedtime.  I slept soooooooo good!

First Night of Vacation or "On a Dark Desert Highway"

Mulling over if I should discontinue my blog?  What else is there for me to do at 5:30 am?  A friend and I were discussing that blogs sure suck up a lot of time, both reading and writing!  Mine has never been that interesting, but I will try to write something today.
April 3rd we flew to Arizona.  We landed about 10:30pm.  We rented our car (the mid size was not available, although it was reserved).  My husband brought the GPS, and entered the address of the resort we were staying at.  We should have got something to eat right away, but drove through a drive through thinking we could eat when we got to our condo.
Well, if you enter "Boulevard" instead of "Parkway," it makes a BIG difference!  We drove, and drove some more.  I never realized how spread out Arizona is!  Finally, as we were nearing, we hit a road that says "ROAD CLOSED."    Okay, now sing with me, "On a Dark Desert Highway...."
Thank God for cellphones!  I called the resort who has 24/7 front desk check in.  The clerk looked up on MapQuest where we were, and directed us back on course!  When we got to the resort, we checked in and drove to the unit.  There was not place to park.  We went back to the desk and the clerk said we would have to park near registration and haul our bags to the condo unit...in the dark....at 1:30am!
Long story short....we ate lukewarm burgers at 2 am.

Time Moves Fast when Getting Ready for Vacation!

I thought I better write before I leave for our vacation!
Life has been uneventful.  It seems like all it has done is rain lately, but the sun is coming out this morning.
Last weekend we got our portraits taken for our church directory.  When I get the prints, you  will be the first to know!
Easter was Easter.  If we didn't go to church, you wouldn't have known it was Easter.
It is the only day of the year (besides Christmas), when my son and husband attend church with me.
We don't go for the breakfast and we don't hang around after.
One of my church friends took this photo.  It is so simple and yet so beautiful, with a glow of angel wings behind the cross.
I bought a lily and took it over to my friend, Linda, so she would have Easter in her home.
We had the "traditional" grilled steak and I made (for the first time) twice baked potatoes.  Yum!
We invited my sister, as she was alone for the holiday.
The next evening after Easter, I took my friend to the "Look Good, Feel Better" program at the hospital.    You can read all about it on Linda's blog, Chocolate, One of My Many Addictions.
She doesn't look like a sick person here!  So pretty!

Wednesday morning I treated myself to a spa pedi.  This place is so wonderful.  It is a restored older building, decorated in an industrial mode (so it is unisex).  I go in and they offer me tea, coffee, or water.  I also get a warm neck roll put on me.

At the foot basin, they help me choose the correct aromatherapy for my foot bath. I never did get the hang of the massage chair remote.   I get my toes done and the young lady who was working on my piggies and I had the best conversation!
I get another cup of tea while waiting for my toes to dry.  It is such a yummy tea.  They pour me one to take home.  It is good to be pampered.
I am getting ready to go to Arizona with my hubby for a long overdue BIG vacation.  I should be excited, but yesterday I was freaking out.  I have been having intestinal problems.  I don't know if there is a narrowing, or a kink in my bowel.  As experienced before, going on vacation with health problems is NOT fun!
My doctor prescribed me some pain pills to tide me over till I see the gastroenterologist (on my birthday!  I will drink gallons of water and watch my roughage!
I think I have to repack.  I am sure I over packed!  Re-do!  We are meeting up with one of my blogging friends (first time ever!).  Can't wait to meet Olivia and her husband!
Until I return....HUGS!
